Staten Island, NY — The United Federation of Teachers (UFT), which represents over 100,000 teachers and other school personnel, have endorsed Michael E. McMahon for Staten Island District Attorney.

“Mike McMahon, whether on the City Council or in Congress, fought for parents, students, teachers and our communities,” said UFT President Michael Mulgrew. “He has a track record of looking out for working men and women and has always been a strong voice for public education. He has dedicated his life to serving the people of Staten Island. He will bring that same passion, experience and sense of fairness to the District Attorney’s office.”

McMahon has been a Staten Island trial lawyer for over 25 years, appearing in courts at all levels throughout New York State. He previously served the people of Staten Island as a Civic Association President, New York City Council Member, and Member of Congress, and currently he is a Partner at the international law firm Herrick Feinstein.

“Today’s endorsement is an especially important one for me. As Staten Island’s next District Attorney, my office will work hand-in-hand with the great teachers here in Staten Island to educate our children on the dangers of prescription drugs and prevent future abuse. Teachers have an immeasurable impact on their students, and by partnering with them in a meaningful way we can begin to turn the tide against the drug epidemic. That is why I have promised to create a full-time and fully-funded community partnership unit to work with Staten Island schools specifically on drug awareness and prevention,” said District Attorney candidate Michael McMahon.
