We thank Governor Cuomo, Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie for their leadership in reaching an agreement on an extension for 421-a projects that will include prevailing wage as part of the discussion. This extension demonstrates the commitment on the part of the Governor, and members of the Senate and Assembly to address the needs and concerns of workers.

For the first time in more than 40 years, state leaders are requiring all stakeholders to work on prevailing wage for construction workers on 421-a projects.

The framework for this agreement is a victory for all New Yorkers. Creating good middle-class jobs benefits not only our economy by providing working men and women with the means to support local businesses, but also our state and local communities by generating tax revenue to support the vital public services that ensure a quality of life all New Yorkers deserve.

Today’s announcement is the result of public sector and private sector unions joining together with their brothers and sisters in the building trades in labor’s fight for better wages, affordable housing and a stronger economy for all.
