The James Zadroga 9/11 Health and Compensation Act, originally passed by Congress in 2010, was initiated to provide funding for its program. The program provides medical monitoring and treatment of WTC-related health conditions for 9/11 responders and survivors. However, due to the fact that more have enrolled, the Act is in danger of having to shut down altogether. In an effort to combat this turn of affairs, a bipartisan group of Congress members are backing legislation that would provide mandatory, permanent funding for the program. Democrat New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand said that without this action, new responders and survivors who need medical help will no longer be able to receive it after 2028.
