Sadly, it’s become the same story for countless dedicated and hard-working nurses pushed to the limit. Across the country, hospitals understaff, putting both nurses and patients at risk, pushing employees to levels of burn-out that can lead them to leave the profession altogether. The latest such example is a strike notice sent on Tuesday to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn on behalf of 1,000 nurses. Issues include the afore-mentioned staffing levels, the astonishing length of time ER patients have to wait for a bed, and, as UFT president Michael Mulgrew, who represents the nurses, said, practices such as spending money on other things such as a Superbowl ad instead of on patient care, among other issues.
