Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law what the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) has called, “the critically needed WWPA.” In a statement, the RWDSU cited “unsafe work speeds, unreasonable work quotas, dangerous work and insufficient breaks,” as pressing issues for workers in the industry. The union also said that the sheer numbers of warehouse facilities, including more being built, particularly by Amazon, correlate with serious injuries and illnesses among the workers.
