Visual Effects workers (VFX) at Walt Disney Pictures have voted unanimously to unionize with the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE). The election was held by the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). In September, VFX workers at Marvel Studio also voted to unionize, and IATSE anticipates many more VFX workers will follow suit. VFX jobs have been largely non-union since the field was established during the first Star Wars movies. IATSE International President Matthew D. Loeb said the changes signal a “seismic shift” and “send a clear message that the demands of VFX workers for dignity, respect, and fairness must be heard.”
