In the state of Wisconsin, a win for both Labor and local utilities, as well as the environment, has been achieved. In late March, it was announced that the state’s top utility companies had partnered with five construction companies to use union labor for most of the upcoming utility-scale solar, wind and battery storage projects. The IBEW, North Central States Regional Council of Carpenters, the Wisconsin Laborers’ District Council, and IUOE Local 139 were the unions involved. The upcoming projects are projected to create nearly 19,000 construction jobs, according to the Climate Jobs National Resource Center.
