“The company is the enemy here.” Those were UAW President Shawn Fain’s words, after Stellantis, formerly known in the U.S. as Chrysler, then, afterwards, Fiat-Chrysler, announced its intention to implement massive layoffs in its Detroit plant, Warren Truck Plant. Out of 3,700 workers, as many as 2,450 face termination, starting in Oct. Stellantis’ brands include Jeep, Chrysler, and Dodge. They are the fourth largest automaker by sales worldwide, and currently employ 43,000 workers in the U.S. And although profits are down significantly as compared to 2023, it still made a net profit of $8.3 billion. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares was given a $39 million compensation package in April.
