Relentlessly union-busting Trump has found another way to slash away at the rights of federal workers-now, those who are in federal labor unions in agencies with national security missions – by citing a 1978 law that he says gives him the right to do so. This particular order, which was executed quietly and in an under-the-table way, ends collective bargaining with federal labor unions in agencies with national security missions across the federal government. Not only is this dangerous in that it affects those who work in agencies crucial to our nation’s safety and security, and takes away their rights as workers, but Trump is cynically gaslighting the federal agencies by declaring that he is ending the right to bargain because of the workers’ role in safeguarding national security, when his action will lessen their abilities to do their jobs. Affected agencies include Departments of State, Defense, Veterans Affairs, part of Homeland Security, and more.
