It is likely a dark portent of things to come from the Trump administration, and his yes-men, for workers everywhere. In a particularly ugly move, Trump and Elon Musk, the richest man in the world, empowered by Trump to co-chair the unfolding “Department of Government Efficiency,” – an undeniably Orwellian term – is now hobbling care for those who need it the most. First responders to the horror of 9/11 – firefighters, police officers, EMTs, paramedics and others, are facing a short-fall of desperately needed funds for their health care related to that day. Over 35,000 have been diagnosed with cancer. Musk killed a bipartisan measure to keep adequate funding for these men and women, and then put a metaphorical knife in their backs, posting on the site X, that he owns, saying “This is a good day for America.”
