Trump Administration has halted congressionally approved funding for the Emergency Food Assistance Programs.
Administrators for the Food Bank for New York City said 2.5 million pounds of food that was supposed to arrive at their warehouse from The U.S. Department of Agriculture in May and June were stopped. All deliveries and funding has been halted.
Federal funding accounts for two-thirds of the Food Bank’s inventory in New York State. Hundred of millions of dollars supporting critical food programs for poor and homeless New Yorker’s have been discontinued. This has put thousand of Americans in a stated of crisis and without daily food and nutrition.
Government funding provides an important consistent base that supports a vast food network in NYC and throughout the U.S. The Food Bank for New York City receives about 50 to 75 truckloads of fresh produce, meats, seafood, dairy products and canned goods every day from around the country at its vast warehouse in The Bronx. The distribution network includes more than 1,200 schools, pantries, churches, and community centers.
