Donald Trump is out of luck if he thinks insulting workers, in particular auto workers, is going to win him more votes. Continuing his spate of derogatory and low-brow barbs, he took a minute from denigrating Kamala Harris as stupid and “lazy” – a dog-whistle used for years to describe black people, to aim his non-laser-like wit at auto plant workers. While speaking to the Economic Club of Chicago on Oct. 15, he said that children could do their jobs. Trump made it obvious that he knows nothing about what stateside vehicle workers actually do on the job. In Michigan, a swing state, where, as of 2001, there were 41,500 employees in vehicle manufacturing, his remarks may come back to haunt him.
