Two years ago, the unthinkable happened: at an Amazon warehouse in Staten Island, NY, the fight for a union was victorious. It was the first, and remains the only, one in the country. Amazon is notorious for its anti-worker and union-busting tactics, as the massive corporation continues to do everything in its power to hold on to its billions in profits, at the expense of employees. Chris Smalls, the Amazon Labor Union’s president has now also come under fire from workers themselves, for not focusing enough on Staten Island, but instead traveling and giving speeches. A dissident union was formed, which then sued the ALU to force a new election.
