New York, NY – The Music Man playing at the Winter Garden Theatre stars Hugh Jackman and Sutton Foster. But this iconic musical written by Meredith Wilson also has an outstanding supportive cast which includes Shuler Hensley, Jefferson May and Jayne Houdyshell. Under the fine direction of Jerry Zaks and choreography by Warren Carlyle, the show jumps out as an entertaining lively production for the entire family. We can hear A Tony Award for best revival of a musical.
Hugh Jackman plays Harold Hill, a con man promising to establish a boy’s band in the middle of Iowa. Sutton Foster plays Marian “the librarian” Paroo. The singing and dancing to is toe-tapping fun, particularly with Ya Got Trouble, Mariann the Librarian, The Wells Fargo Wagon, Shipoopie and the rousing 76 Trombones.
Sutton Foster’s vocal range is quite amazing and Hugh Jackman’s portrayal of a con man, while not perfect, is still tremendous. He has great stage presence.
This is a highly recommended show.
The Music Man is playing at the Winter Garden Theatre, located at 1634 Broadway, in New York City.
