The American Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) called it “a worldwide day of action.” On Feb. 13, thousands upon thousands of unionized flight attendants were driven to picket lines from Alaska to Chicago to Guam to Florida, London and more. The airlines targeted included American, Southwest, Air Wisconsin, Air Alaska and 20 others. The top issue is “fair contracts with significant pay increases.” About 100,000 flight attendants’ needs are being held hostage by no contracts for as much as five years, while some live in their cars and need food stamps to survive; airline CEOs’ astronomical compensation and corporate greed are a major part of the equation.
