The New York State Legislature passed new legislation on June 8, the Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act. It is aimed at reducing injuries to workers at Amazon and other operators of major warehouse facilities. Now, the Teamsters and others are calling on Gov. Hochul to sign the bill into law. Thomas Quackenbush, President of Teamsters Joint Council 18, said, “Workers are suffering preventable injuries because employers like Amazon are putting their profits ahead of safety.” Jeff Bryski, President of Teamsters Joint Council 46, said that workers are “told to take an ibuprofen and get back to work, when what they really need is to be seen by a doctor.”
