Teamsters General President Sean M. O’Brien, in a letter to Chipotle Mexican Grill, Inc. shareholders, asked for support for a proposal that would protect the activity of union organizers in the fast-food chains’ locations. Item Six would prohibit the company from interfering in worker organizing efforts. O’Brien detailed such current practices as mandatory meetings in which anti-union disinformation was spread. One example is when “union avoidance consultants,” a company euphemism for union busters, told employees they would have to pay dues for life even if they left their jobs.
