The New York State Nurses Association (NYSNA) has announced that nurses at Staten Island University Hospital now have a tentative contract agreement with Northwell Health. The nurses were planning to go on strike on April 2, if an agreement was not reached by that date. If rank and file approve the contract, there will be significant improvements for the workers. These include a starting salary of $107,411, and improvements in safe staffing levels, a major issue for nurses all around the country that has been ongoing. Some 18 crucial units will up the number of nurses, such as the burn unit ICU and the labor and delivery unit.
