Thousands of nurses went on strike Apr. 30 and May 1 at three Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Southern California, demanding an end to chronic staff shortages.
“There are patients that are very sick… in emergency rooms who are waiting for beds because of short staffing," said Tessie Costales, a longtime ICU nurse at Kaiser L.A. Medical Center.
