Tom Canty, Vice President Sales Empire BlueCross BlueShield
Believe it or not tweens, teens and thirty-somethings have something in common. Social networking and dieting. Health minded folks of all ages are turning to interactive internet sites to help them lose weight and keep it off. As part of its effort to help people live healthier lives, Empire BlueCross BlueShield has launched a virtual contest to help people boost their way to better health. Facebook users who enter Empire BlueCross BlueShield’s “Join In to Win contest,” can “like,” post, and jump start their way to a healthier life and a personal training experience with Bob Harper from “The Biggest Loser.”
“Join In to Win” is an interactive, virtual contest designed to encourage people to set and achieve their health and fitness goals. Getting fit and living a healthy lifestyle is easier said than done. But once you start, those around you are more likely to join you. Social network channels are a great way to encourage others and be encouraged by your friends to live healthier.
The leaders of the top 5 teams, selected by Bob Harper for level of participation and selection of goal, will win a personal training experience with Bob. The training experience includes participation in a 6-week training period with encouragement by Bob throughout those six weeks in the form of video chats. The winners will also be assigned an Empire BlueCross BlueShield Health Coach to help them achieve their health and fitness goals.
Contest Details:
When: July 11th – August 15th
How to Enter: Visit Empire BlueCross BlueShield’s “Health. Join In” Facebook page (www.facebook.com/HealthJoinIn ). Users can watch five Boost videos, pledging to complete the activity featured in each video by clicking the “I’m Ready” button.
- After completing all five videos, beginning July 18th users can then enter the contest by setting a personal goal for themselves and sharing with their Facebook friends. Participants are encouraged to create a Facebook community around a healthy goal of their choosing. Once the goal is posted, participants are prompted to get their friends involved in achieving the same goal by joining their team
If people are new to social media or not quite up to the challenge yet, they can still benefit from Bob’s guidance; without formal participation in the contest. All followers of Empire’s “Health Join In” Facebook page can hear Bob’s expert advice and encouragement. Videos from Bob will be accessible to contestants, their team members and all followers. Bob Harper may not be standing next to the contestant on the treadmill at the gym, but Bob can be in that contestant’s living room providing personal guidance toward meeting their goals.
