the cost of an MRI can vary between freestanding sites and outpatient departments of hospitals by as much as 3X yet the scan is taken on the same machine and read by the same radiologist – still puzzles me as to why we aren’t searching out the lower cost provider.
Is the process simple? Once engaged it is not – but getting people engaged – getting people to ask the right questions whether it is around the benefits of generic drug utilization, where you get dialysis rendered or where you get your MRI, PET or CAT scan. There is so much cost wasted by overpaying for commoditized services and clearly that waste is driving the cost trends we see today.
