A poll commissioned by the New York State AFL-CIO in Congressional District 23 shows Democrat Nate Shinagawa trailing incumbent Republican Tom Reed by just 5 points.  The poll, which was conducted by the national AFL-CIO, has Reed at 49.7% and Shinagawa at 44.7% with 5.6% of voters undecided.

Mario Cilento, President of the New York State AFL-CIO, said “It’s not surprising to see that Nate Shinagawa’s energy and commitment to middle class values has gained traction in the district just as it inspired union members to support his campaign.  The choice for working families could not be clearer.  We will build on this momentum and work as hard as ever in the final two weeks to help elect Nate Shinagawa to Congress.”

The New York State AFL-CIO represents approximately 64,000 working men and women in the 23rd Congressional District.

The poll, which had a sample size of 959 respondents, has a margin of error of +/- 2.23%.
