New York, NY – A three-month open enrollment period began on Nov. 15 for health plan coverage in the 2015 New York State of Health marketplace. Online at nystateofhealth.ny.gov, the internet marketplace is designed to help people shop for and enroll in health insurance coverage. Navigating the 'exchange' could be tricky but the process has become more consumer friendly this past year.
Launched in April of 2012, the marketplace allows for comparison shopping among health plans. Individual families and small businesses should use the marketplace to buy health insurance. Selection of coverage may be complete on line, in person, telephone or by mail. The last day to enroll for coverage in 2015 is February 15th.
Financial options are available for individuals earning up to $46,680 and families of four making up to $95,400. State assistance is available to pay for “extras” such as co-pays and deductibles.
A special section is provided on the website for employers whose businesses have 50 or fewer workers.
