In the midst of Pride Month, Stuart Appelbaum, President of the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union, is drawing attention to the increased attacks in the U.S. on LGBTQ people. According to the ACLU, there are currently 491 anti-LGBTQ bills they are tracking. Decades after the birth of the modern movement for gay rights in 1969, at Stonewall Inn in Manhattan’s Greenwich Village, those rights won through blood, sweat and tears are under serious threat. “Workers’ rights are civil rights,” says Appelbaum.
