This I an opera composed by Terence Blanchard and Liberalist Michael Cristofer. This is the retelling of the middleweight and welterweight champion Emile Griffith. Ryan Speedo does an excellent portrayal of Emile Griffith. Mr. Griffith was a closed homosexual who rose from obscurity to be Champion of the World.
I knew Mr. Griffith. My father was a union organizer for RWDSU and was able to secure Mr. Griffith’s first job at Eisenberg’s Hats in the garment district. In fact, he had dinner at my house several times.
This is the life story of Mr. Griffith who was haunted by throughout his life by an opponent who was
killed after a savage fight.
This is an interesting and entertaining opera.
