President Trump has attacked federal employee unions with an executive order and the firing  of thousands of federal workers.

President Trump attacked federal employee unions with an executive order. Citing national security, [the president] declared that as many as 1 million workers at dozens of federal agencies will no longer have the right to have a union or take part in collective bargaining because their agencies ‘are hereby determined to have as a primary function intelligence, counterintelligence, investigative, or national security work.

“The labor movement is not about to let Trump and an unelected billionaire destroy what we’ve fought for generations to build,” said a statement from AFL-CIO President Liz Shuler. “We will fight this outrageous attack on our members with every fiber of our collective being.”

More than two dozen private sector unions industrial, construction, and professional — have made official statements of support for the American Federation of Government Employees.

Bricklayers (BAC) President Timothy Driscoll’s statement is typical of the others: “… we stand in solidarity with our brothers and sisters who go to work each day to ensure that our government works for us. The right to join a union and bargain collectively is one shared by all workers, regardless of their employer – and BAC will fight alongside the rest of the labor movement to ensure that every working American has that right.”

The lawsuit filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California, alleges that Trump’s executive order is a retaliatory attempt to punish federal employee unions that have been engaging in constitutionally protected speech.

Trump’s executive  order is the largest and most aggressive single act of union-busting in U.S. history. His disregard for workers throughout America must be addressed by all in this great country.
