The Public Service Commission (PSC) has voted to deny requests for increased subsidies from large companies for their green energy projects. This threatens continued commitments by private industry on dozens of projects. Although the state wants to move its Climate Act’s objectives forward, many wonder if the PSC’s decision will hobble efforts to reach its many goals. The creation of new union jobs that will propel workers into the middle-class may also not come to pass as a result. Gary LaBarbera, the president of the NYC and NYS Building and Construction Trades Council, expressed concern about this possible development, and also noted that due to recent climate change weather events, the issue was even more urgent.
