The Professional Staff Congress has a tentative contract agreement with the City University of New York (CUNY). The deal would cover about 30,000 faculty, adjuncts and other staff. If ratified, members would receive four raises, while adjunct lecturers, who are notoriously underpaid, would also get a significant bump in pay. The fight for better wages was not easy. In October, over 30 members of the PSC, including its president, James Davis, were arrested during a rally, when they had gathered to demand a better economic offer from CUNY. The PSC’s fight means not only better wages for those who work for CUNY, but also a higher retention rate, vital to the continued higher standard for students.
