New York, NY—That’s what the U.S. Senator from New York, Charles Schumer, said in the rotunda at City Hall on Monday evening in the accompanying video interview while a statue of George Washington loomed overhead.
The Senator visited City Hall to attend a 4:45 pm press conference called by Mayor Bill de Blasio where the Mayor announced that the Democratic National Committee had shortlisted the number of cities that will contend for the 2016 Democratic National Convention—New York City, Philadelphia and Columbus, Ohio.
Some argue that it makes less sense for the Democratic National Committee to award New York City as the city to host the 2016 Democratic National Convention because of the walloping Dems suffered in the recent midterms.
But others say New York City is the perfect place to host the convention because it provides the best media platform for the endorsed candidate to explain to voters why a Democratic president will be the better choice in the 2016 election.
The senator from New York said that although it’s hardly a layup, New Yorkers should be for the Democratic National Convention coming to the Barclays Center in Brooklyn in 2016.
“We’ve got a real good shot, and why should New Yorkers be for this—[there’s a] four letter word, JOBS. This will employ huge numbers of people and create all kinds of ancillary jobs. It’s great for our tourism industry. So I think New Yorkers of every different background are going to be for this,” said Senator Schumer.
