NYC Health + Hospitals is planning to cut in half visit times for new patients beginning this fall, from 40 minutes to 20 minutes. Any patient knows that appointment times, for which one often waits weeks or months, are already too short. Now, according to a SEIU International press release from the Doctors Council, the late September start date will impact 11 public hospitals, and H+H’s Gotham Health Centers. A spokesperson for NYC H+H justified the change by claiming that a rise in patients has forced the issue, while the Doctors Council disputes this, saying shorter appointments could hurt the quality of patient care.
