United States Congressman Eliot Engel, NYC Comptroller John Liu, NYC Public Advocate Bill De Blasio, Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr and NYS Assemblyman & Bronx County Chairman Carl E. Heastie.
On Saturday, September 15th, lifelong resident and community activist, Andy King, brought unity to his community. Elected Officials and dozens of community residents came together to endorse Mr. King and celebrate the opening of King’s Campaign Headquarters located on 211th Street and Bronxwood Avenue in The Surrey Co-op Apartments.
A host of Clergy as well as residential leaders showed their support for Candidate King. The campaign headquarters was full of energy and excitement for what is about to happen in this “Special Election” with many supporters expressing their enthusiasm to vote for President Barack Obama and Andy King on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.
Citywide and Bronx elected officials had one resounding message. “Send Andy King to the City Council.”
“Over the years, Andy King has always been at the forefront of dealing with the issues of crime, economic development, and education for the community” said NYC Comptroller John Liu, “now it’s time for us to send him to City Hall to continue this work on behalf of the people in the Bronx”
“I’m here to support Andy King because he is the best candidate for City Council, said Congressman Eliot Engel, “Andy is from this community he knows what it means to be apart of this community and he knows the struggles that working families face here in New York City. I need to know when I am in Washington fighting the good fight, that we have Andy King right here fighting for the Northeast Bronx.”
“As a lifelong resident of this community, Andy has been working tirelessly as an advocate for the people in the 12th District”, said Assemblyman Carl E. Heastie. “The 12th Council District overlaps with my Assembly District, therefore, I could definitely say that Andy King’s steadfast leadership and vision is exactly what the district needs. I’m looking forward to working with him, both now and in the years to come, as our next City Council Representative”.
Bronx Borough President, Ruben Diaz Jr., acknowledged King for his advocacy on behalf of the people of the Bronx. “The people of the 12th Council District could be assured that they will have a strong voice in City Hall with Andy King as their Councilman. Andy King has been one of the most consistent advocates in our borough when it comes to mentoring and supporting our youths and seniors, and fighting for the improvements of social services in our community. I need Andy King as a partner in the City Council so that we could continue to fight for the people of the Bronx. Let’s vote and re-elect President Obama and elect Andy King to the New York City Council on Tuesday, November 6th”.
King stated in his humble remarks, “It is truly a privilege and honor to receive the un-wavering endorsement of the Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. and Bronx Democratic Party Chairman/Assemblyman Carl Heastie. Their vision and leadership transformed the Bronx into a thriving part of our city, at a time when many people had given up on our community. It is because of leaders like Ruben Diaz Jr. and Carl Heastie why I stand here before you today, inspired by our past, filled with hope for our future, and determined to do my very best in writing the next chapter, in which we can be proud of, for the 12th Council District”.
King has already been traveling throughout the district and expanding on the tremendous support that he has gained from the residents in the community. In the upcoming weeks, the Campaign is also prepared to announce a long list of solid endorsements from grassroot organizations, labor organizations, business associations, religious leaders, elected officials and major corporations.
