New York, NY—The NBA’s Adam Silver announced from the NY Hilton on Tuesday, April 29 that the league is banning Los Angeles Clippers basketball owner Donald Sterling from the sport and will seek to force a sale of the team after Sterling told his girlfriend that he supports and gives his black basketball players food, cars, clothes and houses. Mr. Silver took numerous questions from reporters after he announced Sterling’s dismissal. After the press conference, New York Times sports columnist, William Rhoden, was asked whether basketball fans would be able to move on and continue to watch the sport including the current playoff rounds.
“That’s the problem. The problem is that this is basically a moral issue for consumers. Are they still addicted to this that they are still going to go? Of course they will. The consumer is still so addicted to this stuff that they can’t stay away,” said Rhoden.
