Following a slew of attacks on MTA workers which have been vicious and ongoing for years now, two more have been added to the outrageous acts workers have had to endure. In the Bronx, two MTA workers were assaulted by a man, who at first spat on a conductor, and then hit him in the face with a scooter. Then, an MTA worker intervened and also suffered being hit by the scooter. The assailant was a young male who has so far not been apprehended. Transport Workers Union Local President John Chiarello met with other union leaders afterwards to discuss the issue of worker assaults. They voiced anger and disappointment in the lack of protection and worker safety, saying these typed of incidents have happened over and over again and they desperately need help for their workers.
