Over one million people, many union members, marched in the 54th annual Puerto Rican Day Parade Sunday June 13, 2011 in Manhattan. Thousands marched on Fifth Ave. for the annual Puerto Rican Day Parade. Crowds dressed in red and white and waved Puerto Rican flags cheering and blowing horns.

Tony Alvarez from the Bronx said “I come to the Parade every year. More people attend each year. It’s a great parade and something to look forward to”.

City Council Members Marching in the ParadeThe event draws much labor participation with many marching along public officials. It’s estimated that nearly three million spectators viewed the march and over 80,000 participated.The parade attracts many New York politicians. Governor Andrew Cuomo, Senator Charles Schumer, Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Edward Cardinal Egan were among the marching dignitaries. Onlookers wave Puerto Rican Flag and Cheer
