Workers in Florida’s Miami-Dade County who took a 1-percent pay cut in 2011 will get it back next year.
Mayor Carlos Giminez announced July 21, that property values in the county had risen by more than 9-percent in the last year, enough to restore pay for AFSCME Local 199, under a formula the union had agreed to in the 2011 contract. Most of the other public-employee unions who also agreed to take pay cuts after Giminez took office had gotten them restored this year, but Local 199, whose 7,700 members make it the county’s largest, had chosen to rely on property values.
