New York, NY—The CEO of a healthcare assessment services company that provides healthcare audits for a range of clients told LaborPress in a recent video interview that the company has saved its clients over $1 billion since it was founded 40 years ago.
“We have realized savings of $1 billion post-appeal. We’re that confident in our ability to save money that we do it on contingency. We guarantee our clients that if the savings from our program will exceed the cost or otherwise I’ll refund the difference. So we are very confident in every single thing that we do, that we can save our clients lots of money,” said Joseph B. Stamm, M.P.A., CEO and President of MedReview.
MedReview, a subsidiary of the New York County Health Services Review Organization (NYCHSRO), was formed in 1984 to provide auditing services for clients in the private and public sector, including government agencies, labor unions and insurance companies.
Mr. Stamm got his start in the field after he graduated from New York University in 1974 with a degree in public administration.
“The former health commissioner Dr. Lowell Bellin was my professor and he got me excited about public administration and he suggested that when I was working at the Department of Health I take a more global approach to my job. I spent three years at the Department of Health as a director of investigation and enforcement of Medicaid; when that task ended Dr. Bellin hired me at NYCHSRO. I thought I would be there for four or five years and move on, but 37 years later I’m still here,” said Stamm.
In the video interview, Mr. Stamm discuss some of his most proudest professional achievements—being invited by The White House to join other heathcare leaders who helped to pass The Affordable Care Act, participating in international conferences on healthcare cost containment and providing humanitarian services by sending doctors employed by MedReview to ravaged parts of the globe.
But we asked him what would he say about what has been his greatest personal achievement since becoming CEO of MedReview.
“I believe a milestone was being appointed as an assistant professor at Columbia University and giving lectures at Columbia and New York University. The truth is the day-to-day work I do, knowing we help people and making certain that services rendered were medically necessary and appropriate tops the list of achievements.”
