The COVID vaccine mandate for city workers is a thing of the past. Mayor Adams announced the end of the controversial policy that had sparked protests among public employees since it had been instituted by former Mayor Bill de Blasio. 1,780 workers were fired for not getting the vaccine. Police officers, firefighters, teachers and others were among those who lost their jobs. Now, says Adams, they can reapply for their former positions, however, they won’t get back pay, leading unions to say they will sue.
