Letter to the Editor – Mayor Bloombergs Assault on Collective Bargaining Rights
March 3, 2011
By Eric Mayr
Even as the New York City economy rebounds and revenue from Wall Street pours into the city's coffers, the mayor continues to threaten massive teacher layoffs.
There is no need for layoffs. It's all a political game. The mayor is trying to divide us, and we can’t let that happen. He is trying to push through a very bad bill that attacks collective-bargaining rights. This Friday, at the mayor's behest, John Flanagan, a Republican senator from Suffolk County, introduced legislation that lays out a maze of new rules to determine layoff order only for New York City. Make no mistake: this bill is a direct assault on collective-bargaining rights.
