In 2021, workers at the Jewish Museum in NYC voted to organize with Local 2110 UAW. At that time, the Local’s organizing efforts were sweeping through major cultural institutions in NYC and beyond, including MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Whitney, and the Brooklyn Museum, among many others. Now, in 2023, the Jewish Museum staff have voted overwhelmingly to ratify their first contract. The contract contains a host of major wins: wage increases of 17% over three years, 20% raises for on-call art handlers, 14% for museum educators. There will be increased childcare leave, better part-time benefits, more vacation time and health and safety protections, among other gains.
