CHARLOTTE, Mich.—When Randall Margraves attempted to attack the disgraced doctor convicted of molesting three of his daughters in a courtroom Feb. 2, he was wearing an blue International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers sweatshirt. He leaped at Larry Nassar, who’d sexually abused more than 100 teenage girls and young women while a USA Gymnastics doctor giving special treatments, after Eaton County Circuit Court Judge Janice Cunningham denied his request to “grant me five minutes in a locked room with this demon.” Margraves was not charged with a crime, but coworker Aaron Pangborn, a fellow IBEW member, started a drive on the GoFundMe site to raise money for him—and collected more than $8,000 in donations within three hours. Comments included “From one Union Father to Another, I would’ve done the same thing, proud of you Brother!” Margraves told Judge Cunningham that his daughters’ victim-impact statements had included things he didn’t know, and he’d lost it when he saw Nassar “shaking his head no, like it didn’t happen.” She said that while she could understand how that could create “a rage so great that any parent would want to do physical harm,” she couldn’t condone assault.
