Today, January 20, we celebrate one of the greatest activists and advocates for social justice in history: Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Dr. King’s ardent advocacy for equality and our civil rights – as a unifying and selfless leader – fueled the engine for national change—and sparked the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950’s – 1960’s.

CARRYING MLK’S LEGACY FORWARD THROUGH  A DAY OF SERVICE

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day encourages Americans to “take a day on, not in,” as a Federal Holiday that is also a National Day of Service.

Dr. King’s eloquent speeches, moving teachings, and activism also encouraged millions to engage in selfless service for others, to uplift communities while realizing one’s greatness.

Today, the National Day of Service campaign continues Dr. King’s empowering volunteerism, with events taking place across Brooklyn, NYC, and the nation.

“MLK’s powerful vision and courageous leadership changed our nation forever,” says Assemblymember Rodneyse Bichotte Hermelyn. “Dr. King’s life was cut far too short when he was assassinated for his beliefs—and we have a deep responsibility to keep the leader’s legacy alive by confronting bigotry and hate with powerful and peaceful advocacy.”

Wishing all a meaningful, safe and uplifting holiday
