On Thursday, May 19, 2011 at Villa Barone Manor, Bronx, NY the 2011 Educational Leadership Project Banquet was held. This event sponsored by the National Puerto Rican Day Parade Board of Directors. Dr. Aida Rosa who coordinated the educational leadership project for the past seventeen years and Madelyn Lugo, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the National Puerto Rican Day Parade, presented the award to the President of Metropolitan College of New York, Dr. Vinton Thompson.
Dr. Antonio Perez, President of Borough of Manhattan Community College, was also honored. Pierre Lehmuller, Executive Director of New York City Elementary Principal Association and Anita Gomez Palacio, Executive Director of Operations, Council of Supervisors and Administrators were honored as well. John Liu the Comptroller of New York City was also present to honor the Presidents of Metropolitan College of New York and the President of the Borough of Manhattan Community College.
There was also honorees from the New York State United Teachers, the United Federation of Teachers and the Transport Union, Local 100.
On Sunday June 12, 2011 all the honorees and there organizations will take part in the 54th Puerto Rican Day Parade which is the biggest Hispanic outdoor event in the United States.
