Unions had supported three pieces of legislation, which now have been signed into law by Governor Kathy Hochul. The laws cover warehouse worker injury, car dealerships and their workers, and the use of AI in state agencies. The Warehouse Worker Injury Reduction Act, a bill sponsored by State Senator Jessica Ramos, establishes ergonomic safety standards, and requires annual evaluations of large warehouses, with the DOL empowered to enforce such protections. The bill aims to reduce the notorious rate of injuries at Amazon warehouses. The UAW Local 259 also got a boost in another signing by Hochul which dictates that automobile brokers must register with state officials and maintain a place of business. Lastly, the Governor put in place legislation that will require transparency for how state agencies use artificial intelligence.
