FDNY EMS Local 2507, the union representing emergency response teams in New York City, has urged its members to no longer work in Midtown and Lower Manhattan. This potentially dire state of affairs for residents may come about because of congestion pricing, which will be $9 at its peak. EMS workers make the shockingly low pay rate of $18.94 an hour, and the new pricing would cost them, and firefighters, EMTs, and other emergency personnel, about $45 per week to get to work. If the workers do transfer out, it may be a bad day when you call 911.
