DC9 is opening up the ranks and accepting new apprentices this month.

New York, NY – From October 2nd to October 23rd, District Council 9, UPAT (The International Union of Painters and Allied Trades), is holding a formal recruitment for apprentices across allied trades, seeking metal polishers, glaziers, painters and bridge painters.

The three-year program is demanding, but offers apprentices on-the-job training, for which they are paid, as well as night-scheduled in-classroom training. The work is a pathway to the increasingly difficult to obtain middle-class life. Fair wages and a benefit package are part of the package for members of DC 9, as well the chance to upgrade skills at the training center.

There is also much room for growth in New York. “New York’s construction industry is constantly evolving, and it is critical to deploy a highly skilled workforce to meet the state’s tremendous growth and opportunity,” said Business Manager/Secretary Treasurer Joseph Azzopardi. “At District Council 9 our focus is to invest in the future through our training centers and programs to promote a pathway to rewarding careers.”

Applicants must fill in the application in person at District Council 9’s temporary training center located at 36-13 36th Avenue, Astoria, NY 11106. They need to be high school graduates, or have a GED, be 18 years of age or older, must be physically able to perform the work required of the trade, demonstrate their ability to reach remote job sites, and must produce proper identification.
