New York, NY – District Council 37, has Endorsed Yetta Kurland in her bid for the New York City Council’s 3rd District in Manhattan.
“DC 37 proudly endorses Yetta Kurland because of her record of standing by this union in our fight to protect the jobs, wages and benefits of our members and our retirees,” said Ms. Roberts.
“Throughout this administration, city workers have had to fight major battles to protect rights that we fought hard to win as well as do more with less as we continue to serve an ever-growing population. Ms. Kurland has been a great friend to DC 37 in these struggles.”
Among factors leading to DC 37’s endorsement of Kurland, who sits on the Executive Committee of the National Lawyers Guild’s NYC Chapter, are her strong record of community work, including advocacy on civil rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ rights and ending stop-and-frisk policies; her work against poverty and for affordable housing, including a history of tenants’ rights activism; her strong voice in support of economic rights for working people and for passage of the millionaire’s tax; and her opposition to wasteful privatization of public hospitals and other public services.
“It is a great honor to have been endorsed by the city’s largest public employee union,” said Kurland. “For too long this administration has outsourced city contracts to out-of-state non-union contractors who are unqualified. As a City Council member, protecting the interests of New York City’s hard working public employees will always be a top
priority.”
