The computer systems managers (CSM) who work for CUNY are raising their voices over a crucial matter: a lack of raises and pay inequities. Because these workers are state employees in a classified managerial title, they can’t unionize. The result of this is that between 2009 and 2016, they did not receive any raises. They did receive raises in three other years, however, not retroactive pay. At the same time other public-sector employees did receive back pay. This has incensed the CSM’s. One veteran CSM employee, who spoke only on the condition of anonymity, said that “the amount of money that we haven’t received, going back to 2009, is a significant amount of retirement and pension contribution.”
