It has been known for decades that lead paint, whether from its dust, or chips that can be consumed by children, is extremely hazardous. Lead poisoning in children is particularly dangerous, and can lead to lifelong impairments. And yet Legacy Builders/Developers Corp. ignored legal safety standards. The company performed renovations at over 100 apartments, without providing lead safety training to workers. They also failed to contain construction dust, and did not conduct post-renovation cleaning. These are just some of the contractor’s illegal activities regarding lead paint. As part of the settlement, the company admitted its violations, and was ordered to correct them, and pay a $168,000 civil penalty, among other orders.
