When most people hear the name Chippendales, they think of male dancers whose object it is to entertain them, not workers in the usual sense of the word. But that has changed, or will change for those who follow the progression of unions in this country and who they are representing. The legendary all-male revue, in residence in Las Vegas for over 20 years, joined the Actors’ Equity Association in October. Their major goal was to get higher wages and better working conditions. Since that was not forthcoming from their venue, the Rio Hotel & Casino, the union has filed an Unfair Labor Practices complaint with the NLRB. The unions says union-busting activities have plagued the members, including the firing of those who have showed their support for the union.
