Albany, NY – New York State lost over 300,000 manufacturing jobs in the last decade, and rather than being part of solution, the state is contributing to the problem by outsourcing materials for infrastructure projects to foreign countries. Foreign companies have been awarded contracts for subway repairs, commuter rail projects and bridge work including just last year when the MTA spent over $34 million in public money on Chinese steel for repairs to the Verrazano. It's shameful.
Buy American will create both direct and indirect jobs by pumping public dollars back into our economy, and will ensure that the infrastructure our families take to school and work every day is built with quality American craftsmanship. It's time to end the outsourcing of American jobs with the public's money.
